To date, the University has been granted funds for six projects allocated under the Institutional Development Scheme Research Infrastructure Grant, four projects under the Inter-institutional Development Scheme and over 50 projects under the Faculty Development Scheme.

With the aim of nurturing talent to engage in high-quality research, the University’s Research Office organizes a wide range of seminars and workshops to help our academic staff keep up to date on research tools and strategies. Each research institute and centre also regularly invites renowned international scholars to share research findings and experiences. Some of these experts serve as mentors for our faculty members, providing valuable guidance and advice. Our colleagues also take part in academic exchanges to broaden their horizons and explore opportunities for collaboration.

A new Public and Social Policy Research Centre has also come on line to study ageing and housing in the local community as the major themes with the aim of contributing ideas and advice on social policies. This initiative is the continuation of an earlier study

undertaken by the School of Arts and Social Sciences to investigate people’s willingness to contribute to a universal retirement protection scheme.

In a study on the level of job satisfaction of young nursing practitioners in 2017, researchers from the School of Nursing and Health Studies cautioned authorities on the findings of negative factors leading to young nurses eventually leaving the profession.

The Chinese Culture in the Global Context, a project also funded by the Research Grants Council, serves as a platform to connect with major centres of Chinese studies around the world, with the aim of enhancing the capability of OUHK academics involved in conducting research in the disciplines of Chinese language, literature, history, philosophy, communication, film and art. Concurrently, the Tin Ka Ping Centre of Chinese Culture provides support for a variety of lectures and events conducive to enhancing the academic environment.

Also, sponsorship has been received to support students pursuing research-oriented postgraduate studies at the OUHK.
